We're now in the home stretch of this summer's workshop. The tunes have been picked out and we can play all the way through them at this point, which is a crucial milestone in every workshop. Matt Leifer says that this session's repertoire is the ballsiest we've ever done. When I asked him how to ascertain the the quantity of balls in a piece of music he said something about rhythm and then I stopped listening. At any rate, we've got some good music.
This past rehearsal we were joined by subs Eric Chapman on trombone and the sorely missed Derek Worthington on trumpet who was back in town for a couple of days. It's been great to hear Derek's development over the past year. I supposed that's what grad school does for you. That or Michigan winters.
The coming Sunday, August 7th, Brad Cox will be bringing his expertise to Black House and will be our second guest clinician. Clint Ashlock gave a fantastic critique on our "A Train" arrangments and now Brad will help us with our original material. Later that day Brad will be leading the People's Liberation Big Band in celebrating three years or Jeff Harshbargers Jazz Series at the RecordBar. The show starts at 8:00pm.
I also want to congratulate the members of Phonologotronic on a great show this past Sunday and once again request "Eyes Without a Face" by Billy Idol.
