This weekend's rehearsal saw some more solid additions to this session's repertoire from Peter Lawless and Brian Padavic. Peter's piece has really strong rhythmic ideas and I like how he incorporated the voice, which is something I am currently struggling with. I had not met Brian until Sunday and I was impressed by both his playing and his writing.
Last Friday was the first open studios for the Urban Culture project. It appears that these events are much more organized this year, with easier access to the space. In past performances I've relied on my girlfriend to wait at the elevators with the key to let everyone up individually which was rather problematic. So it's a relief to see interns assigned to man the elevators.
Russell and I got to see a sneak peak of "See-Saw," a collaboration by the official BHIC mentor, Mark Southerland, and fellow CCS resident, Jane Gotch. The little we saw was engaging and creative. I'm really hoping that we can convince Jane to do something with BHIC. It was also cool to see Mark play so little saxophone. I certainly recommend checking out the performances.
Does the girlfriend that waited at the elevator with a key to let folks in have a name? Would you like to take this opportunity to thank her for nameless support?

I prefer to remain in the shadows, mysterious and unnamed, like a predator waiting to pounce.
